IATSE Local 118 Wins Organizing Trifecta on Granville Island

On April 16, IATSE Local 118 secured its third organizing win in less than a month. All three theatre companies operate on the Vancouver peninsula known as Granville Island. Stage employees at the theatres voted in three separate ballots and, with strong majorities and one unanimous vote, the BC Labour Relations Board issued the certificates for all three.
Summer GEB Meeting Rescheduled

IATSE Supports Jury’s Safety Recommendations Following Coroner’s Inquest of Radiohead Stage Collapse

IATSE welcomes the valuable recommendations the jury has returned today in the coroner's inquest concerning the Radiohead stage collapse at Downsview Park on June 16, 2012, which tragically claimed the life of drum technician Scott Johnson. The recommendations are comprehensive and evidence an understanding of health and safety issues facing the live performance industry.

Metropolitan Opera Avoids Strike by Making Deal with Makeup Artists and Hair Stylists

Members of Local 798 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IA), representing make-up artists and hair stylists at New York’s Metropolitan Opera, reached a tentative agreement with Met Management to keep employees on the job. The deal came approximately an hour after members had voted unanimously to authorize a strike against the company.
Nitrogen Studios (Cinesite) Employees Awarded Overtime Pay For Work on 2016 Film "Sausage Party"

In a victory for animators and visual effects artists in British Columbia, the BC Employment Standards Branch has issued a determination (ESB Nitrogen Studios determination) awarding overtime pay to employees of Nitrogen Studios (now Cinesite) for their work in 2016 on the feature film Sausage Party and has levied a $500 fine against the studio.
